Jung SuWon, literally translated, means “uniting body, mind, and spirit in total harmony.”
The Korean martial art of Jung SuWon was founded by Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim. Physically, it resembles the martial arts of Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do. Jung SuWon was officially created as a unique martial art style in 1989.
The focus of Jung SuWon is on utilizing the whole body, mind and spirit in every technique, form, and sparring situation. What this means is, as a student executes physical techniques, we emphasize maintaining a mental focus as well as bringing up his or her energy in order to fully execute the technique. It’s not just about punching and kicking. Where is your mind as you perform the techniques? Where is your spirit? Are you thinking about the difficult time you had at work during the day? Are you thinking about the problems you are having with your girlfriend or boyfriend?
As you perform the physical techniques, you bring your body, mind and spirit together. As we learn to do this on the dojang floor, we learn to carry this to our daily lives.
When you are at work, is your mind on the problems you are having at home? When you are with your boyfriend, are you thinking about the issues you are having at work? When you are doing your homework, are you wondering if that cute girl likes you?
When your mind is not with your body, then you are not living fully and completely. Imagine what you could do if you bring your body, mind and spirit together as one!
