Sacrifice is the sixth principle of inner power that Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches us at Jung SuWon Martial Art Academy.
Many of us drag the thought about sacrificing something in our lives to reach our goals. Why is that? Somehow our society has painted the picture that sacrificing means a loss: something difficult and challenging to do. Therefore, to commit to sacrificing something could easily be a drag for some, while others instantly look the other way when it comes to the topic of sacrificing.
However, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim has a powerful way to define what sacrifice really means. In her Seven Steps to Inner Power book, she emphasizes that ” Sacrifice as a step to inner power is never a loss and always a gain. When your Silent Master gives you a desire, it will never ask you to sacrifice something you need. That is contrary to its nature of love. When you find yourself at a crossroads and you must make a choice of what to hold on to and what to let go of, ask yourself if the so-called sacrifice is really a loss. Usually, the things we give up to achieve a goal are things we no longer need or they are unworthy of keeping. If you give up laziness to keep your workout schedule, is that a loss? If you give up fear to develop public speaking skills, is that a loss? If you give up smoking to become more healthy and set a good example for your children, is that a loss? “
Let’s not think of sacrificing as a bad thing. Let’s have a different view about it by looking at it as a necessary step to finally achieve what we want in life. It might be uncomfortable in the beginning, but the reward, in the end, will be all worth it. What old habits do you need to give up to start a new beginning and to find a new you? What negative baggages have you been carrying that you need to let go off so you can set your self free to go achieve your goals?
Once, you made up your mind, go ahead and be willing to sacrifice what you no longer need and make room for the new!
