At Jung SuWon Martial Art Academy, every time a student tests for the belt rank, he or she takes a new challenge. Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches us to face our fears and weakness to strive to overcome them through our determination and focus. We each have perceived limitations that hold us back in many ways. During testing, one of the tests that we go through is breaking a board.
However, we learn that it’s more than using our physical body to break the board but in fact, to do this successfully, our body, mind and spirit, must be joined together. Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches us that every time we break a board, we must set a goal such as aiming for an accomplishment we want to achieve like getting good grades, job promotion, following our dreams, building strong relationships and more. Our goal could also be about breaking our old habits and our negative thoughts such as depression, bullying, insecurity, laziness and more.
Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim talks about this topic in her recent article in Addicted 2 Success titled, “It’s Not About Breaking the Board: What Entrepreneurs can Learn from Martial Arts.”
Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim shares, “Sometimes, our biggest obstacle isn’t a tangible object like a board or block, but rather, it is our MIND that stops us from achieving our goals. Everyone has a “board” in life. It’s the business we want to launch, the career change we wish to explore, the self-expression we desperately want to pursue but haven’t.”
This article also reminds me that what we learn at Jung SuWon can be applied in different areas such as business environment, school, career, personal, social and more.
