Jung Suwon Martial Arts

For Children, Adults and Families

Today is a very special day to take a moment to honor those who have served our country and sacrificed their lives for our freedom!

Courage, Strength, Sacrifice in Martial Arts

I have been thinking a lot about what sacrifice means. Without realizing, we are presented with different options and choices every single moment! How do we make the right choices when we are presented with competing priorities?

In Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim’s book, she shares regarding the topic of sacrifice that gave me a new perspective!

In Seven Steps to Inner Power Book on Page 210, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim shares, “When your Silent Master gives you a desire, it will never ask you to sacrifice something you need. When you find yourself at a crossroads and you must make a choice of what to hold on to and what to let go of, ask yourself if the so-called sacrifice is really a loss. Usually, the things we give up to achieve a goal are things we no longer need or they are unworthy of keeping. If you give up laziness to keep your workout schedule, is that a loss? If you give up fear to develop public speaking skills, is that a loss? If you give up smoking to become more healthy and set a good example for your children, is that a loss?”

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim is teaching us to recognize that sacrificing isn’t about being forced to give up something. Instead, focus on why you want to give it up, perhaps so we can grow and transform.
